AFTER IV SEDATION
Recovery with support.
- Follow the discharge instructions given to you and your responsible adult/carer.
- Arrange the support and supervision specified by your anaesthetic team.
- Follow your individual restrictions for driving, work, machinery, alcohol and important decisions. Confirm the duration with your team before leaving.

If you or your carer are unsure about an instruction, contact the treating team. Do not substitute general online guidance for your written plan.

Protect the area.
Follow your recovery plan.
Use the procedure-specific instructions given to you for bleeding care, cleaning, food, activity and medicines. Implant and grafting instructions may differ from extraction advice.
Eating and numbness
Follow the food advice from your dentist. Take care not to bite your lip, cheek or tongue while your mouth is numb.
Cleaning and the wound
Follow the cleaning and rinsing instructions for your procedure. After an extraction, protecting the blood clot supports healing.
Follow-up
Keep your planned review and contact your treating team if symptoms worsen or you are worried. Do not wait for a routine review if urgent advice is needed.
General extraction guidance: healthdirect — tooth extraction. Your own treatment instructions take priority.

Your treatment.
Your instructions.
Follow your dentist’s advice about eating, cleaning, any temporary restoration or appliance, and your next appointment. Whitening and aligner instructions depend on the product and treatment plan provided.
My bite feels different or I have pain. What should I do?
Contact the practice to discuss your symptoms and whether you need a review. Do not try to adjust a filling, crown or appliance yourself.
I have lost my instructions. Can I get another copy?
Call our team and tell us which treatment you had. We can help you obtain the instructions relevant to your care.
Can my carer use this page?
Yes. Read it alongside the written discharge information provided to you. Contact the treating team if any part of the recovery plan is unclear.
